NAEM Chemical Risk Management Work Group Meeting:
Chemical Risk Management Challenges
March 19, 2008, 12:15pm-4:00pm
Marriott Coronado Island
San Diego, California
The NAEM Chemical Risk Management (CRM) Work Group is hosting a half-day meeting focused on advancing mutually beneficial improvements related to chemical risk management to improve Department of Defense (DoD) and defense industries’ mission sustainability goals. At its inaugural meeting in October 2007, the Work Group began the process of identifying mutually beneficial opportunities for Industry and DoD to institutionalize new processes that advance CRM goals by lowering mutual risks and promoting newer, more sustainable technologies. The Group’s ultimate work product will be a report identifying opportunities for process improvements and new technologies as well as recommendations on how they may be successfully implemented by either or both DoD and Industry. The report will be presented this October at the NAEM Annual Forum in Memphis, Tennessee.
The output of the October meeting is captured in the Work Group’s Overview and Framework for Strategic Planning, which highlights many of the key issues the Group is addressing as well as milestones to be achieved between March and the NAEM Annual Forum. At the upcoming meeting, the Group will continue the dialogue started in October with the specific goal of agreeing to a final list of issues to be researched and developed into the final report.
| To achieve this goal, this meeting will address four specific objectives: |
 |
Developing a common understanding of current DoD policies, practices, tools and plans relevant to life cycle risk assessment, pursuing material changes, and chemical management. |
 |
Refining the drivers for pursuing improvements in chemical risk management (i.e., needs and issues) |
 |
Identification of additional opportunities for improving chemical risk management |
 |
Finalizing the Work Group Plan and identification of individual work group member roles |
