Phil Berry, Head of Sustainability and Corporate Social Responsibility; Stora Enso GIPO

Phil Berry

Phil Berry has had a long and successful career in the area of sustainability both in the United States and in China.

At Stora Enso GIPO in Guangxi, Berry is responsible for developing social, environmental, and stakeholder engagement programs in Stora Enso’s largest emerging market investment. He has been with Stora Enso since August 2013. However, Berry has worked on sustainability, supply chain, and human rights issues in China for more than 20 years. From 2008 to 2013, Berry consulted on human rights and supply chain issues for large U.S., U.K., and Asian companies. Previously, Berry spent 11 years at Nike, Inc. From 1996 to 2001, Berry led the team that started the sustainability programs in Nike Footwear’s Asian supply chain. From 2001 to 2007, Berry served as Nike Footwear’s Director of Sustainability

At the heart of the findings in NAEM’s “Ready, Set, Implement: How to Successfully Deploy an EHS & Sustainability Software System” is that success—or failure— often comes down to how well the company mapped the system to its core processes, trained its users and sold the value to the organization.
