Latest NAEM Benchmark Finds One-third of Companies Combine EHS with Sustainability at the Corporate Level

Designing the optimal environment, health and safety (EHS) and sustainability organization is a complicated equation, but according to a new report by the National Association for Environmental Management (NAEM), about a third of responding companies combine these functions at the corporate level.
Based on a survey of 193 companies from across industry sectors, NAEM's 2016 Staffing, Structure and Budgets report reveals that 59 percent of companies are managing EHS as a combined function at the corporate level; 32 percent now have a function that combines EHS with sustainability.

NAEM Starts Preparing to Elect the New Board of Directors

NAEM is assembling a governance committee to oversee the process of electing a new Board of Directors for the 2017-2018 term. According to the association’s bylaws, elections to the Board of Directors take place every two years. The candidates are selected from a pool of nominations by a governance committee, composed of members of the Board of Regents.

Carol Singer Neuvelt to keynote MEC symposium

Carol Singer Neuvelt, Executive Director of NAEM has been selected as a keynote speaker for this year's Manufacturers Education Council's Sustainability and EHS symposium. The annual gathering of EHS professionals will be held on March 29 and 30 in Cincinnati. NAEM member Craig Liska, Environmental Manager at Verso Paper, will co-present at the event.
NAEM launches employee engagement tool

Today NAEM announced the launch of its Green Tips Guide, a tool for engaging employees around a company's sustainability efforts. Researched and designed by NAEM for use by EHS and sustainability leaders, the Guide outlines 10 areas where employees can take action to green their lives at home and at work.
"To pursue sustainability, companies need to get their employees involved,â€ said Carol Singer Neuvelt, Executive Director of NAEM. "From using less water and recycling to carpooling and composting, small steps can add up to a big difference. The Green Tips Guide is a useful resource for communicating the value of every employee's contribution to the overall business strategy.â€

At an NAEM Conference this month in Chicago, more than 120 Environmental, Health and Safety (EHS) and Sustainability professionals gathered to discuss leading-edge strategies in measuring, managing and reducing corporate greenhouse gas emissions.
Today NAEM announced its 2017 conference calendar, focused on the latest management challenges and emerging practices for environment, health and safety (EHS) and sustainability leaders. "Because the EHS&S field continues to evolve along with the spectrum of risks it manages, NAEM's 2017 calendar was developed to be timely and relevant to the needs of those leading these programs within companies," said Executive Director Carol Singer Neuvelt.
