This month we introduce you to Erik Petrovskis, Director of Environmental Compliance and Sustainability at Meijer Inc., one of the members who helps make our network so unique.
Why did you join NAEM?
NAEM is the premier professional organization for corporate EHS leaders. I joined to learn, to network with my peers and to benchmark my organization.
What are currently working on?
I am developing and implementing environmental compliance systems to address multimedia issues. I am thrilled to develop Meijer's sustainability strategy and to integrate program activities in retail, merchandising, distribution, and manufacturing operations.
What do you like about your job?
I absolutely love the diversity of my technical work and the opportunities to support internal customers across Meijer.
What career accomplishment are you most proud of?
After a 20-year career in consulting, I am most proud of the client service that I delivered to solve challenging technical and organizational issues.
What advice would you have for someone entering the field today?
Tackle the toughest technical subject matter that you can handle – become an expert. Return to first principles to solve problems. Most importantly, develop robust communication skills – write, write, write.
What are the three words your spouse/colleagues/best friends would use to describe you?
Hardworking, even-tempered, personable.
What aspect to the natural world/environment impresses you the most? Why?
In a recent trip to Michigan’s Upper Peninsula, I was stunned by the breathtaking, natural beauty of the Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore. I was reminded of my career purpose in protecting our natural resources.
What do you like to do during your free time?
I am exploring recreation and cultural events in my new home – Grand Rapids, Michigan.
