This month we introduce you to Rachael Weiskind, Director, Environmental Health and Safety at Smith & Wesson Corp., one of the members who helps make our network so unique.
Why did you join NAEM?
It's a well-respected organization and affords the opportunity to stay abreast of emerging environmental topics as well as regulatory trends. The meetings likewise allow for networking amongst peers, which is critical for perspective.
What do you like about your job?
Like most EH&S professionals, every day in my world is different than the last; there is always something new on the horizon and I like the challenge that that presents. In concert with the new challenges, I also very much enjoy the opportunity to grow and develop the junior members of my team. The ability to impart knowledge is extremely rewarding.
What advice would you have for someone entering the field today?
Try and absorb as much early on in your career as possible. There is no substitute for hands-on training and experience.
What are the three words your spouse/colleagues/best friends would use to describe you?
Driven, spontaneous, tenacious.
What aspect to the natural world/environment impresses you the most? Why?
The ability for the environment (soil, water, etc.) to recover after contamination, devastation and the like.
What do you like to do during your free time?
I’m a pretty big runner and do a bit of road and trail racing throughout the year. I also enjoy cooking and spending time with family and close friends.
