Speaker biographies:

William C. Looney

Mr. Looney is a Senior Program Manager at AECOM and has over 30 years' experience in environmental consulting. As Director of AECOM Environment's Nanotechnology Initiative, he established and is responsible for coordination and direction of a multidisciplinary, multinational team of internal AECOM experts and external university collaboration partners to assist clients in addressing nanotechnology-related issues. The team's fields of expertise include: environmental health and safety, fate and transport, risk assessment and risk communication, industrial hygiene, water treatment, process engineering, and investigation and remediation.

Mr. Looney has made a number of presentations related to human health and environmental risks from nanomaterials; use of nanomaterials in remediation of environmental releases and the requirement for proactive audits of nanomaterial handling practices to clients and professional organizations. AECOM's Nanotechnology Initiative was recently awarded the Environmental Business Journal's Business Achievement Award for Best New Practice Area.

Kate Sellers

Ms Sellers divides her practice between resolving environmental problems resulting from historical industrial practices, and exploring emerging environmental issues and their solutions. Both areas entail a multidisciplinary approach to problem solving; ability to synthesize and clearly communicate information; and a recognition of the need to balance regulatory imperatives with clients' business priorities. Most recently, she has explored issues relating to the use of nanotechnology through advising clients and preparing publications, most notably editing and co-authoring the book Nanotechnology and the Environment (Taylor & Francis/CRC Press, 2009).
