Michael Miller will be presenting a case study detailing Dean Foods’ EHS&S reorganization and how he aligned EHS & Sustainability resources to drive business value during a dynamic period of growth and divestitures. His presentation will include key questions he used to identify priorities, assign resources and evaluate staff capacity. He’ll also share lessons learned about how to make the business case for EHS & Sustainability staffing whether or not your organization is facing a redesign.

Taylor Gelsinger has been with NAEM since 2013. She executes NAEM's research program, specializing in a range of EHS and sustainability topics, including: compliance, environmental information management systems, corporate responsibility reporting, materiality, metrics and professional development. Taylor graduated with a Master of Environmental Management degree in environmental economics and policy from Duke University and a Bachelor of Science degree in business administration from Oklahoma State University.
Michael Miller is Vice President of Environmental Health & Safety for Dean Foods. In this role Michael provides leadership to more than 75 EHS professionals in both enterprise, manufacturing, and logistics environments. Michael also sits on the Supply Chain Leadership Team working with other supply chain executives to provide strategic direction for the company.
Michael has been in the EHS field for over 18 years in multi-industry manufacturing and food & beverage companies in progressively increasing roles of responsibility.Michael has revamped the EHS function at Dean Foods overseeing several capital projects around waste water treatment, ammonia compliance, and leading a behavioral safety program that has resulted in over 60 percent reduction in injuries in 6 years, $130 million in P&C reserve releases, and significantly reduced property and claim costs for the business.
Prior to Dean Foods, Michael was the Director of Risk Management, EHS, & Product Compliance for Apex Tool Group, where he was responsible for setting up international insurance and EHS programs in over 40 countries. Prior to the ATG, Mike was the EHS Director for a segment of Danaher Corporation and had EHS roles at Textrons Corporate and E-Z-GO golf car business unit.
Michael has been a member of NAEM since 1998, when he attended his first Forum. Since 2012, he has represented Dean Foods on the Board of Regents, and served on the Board of Directors between 2011-2013.
Michael has a degree in Environmental Science & Policy from Clark University, graduate work from Clark University and Bryant University. Michael is a certified Six Sigma Greenbelt and has extensive training in lean manufacturing, project management, and behavior based safety.In addition to his involvement with NAEM, Michael is active with the Direct Distribution Logistics Counsel (DDLC) and the International Dairy Farmers Association's subcommittee focused on worker safety and environmental regulatory issues facing the dairy industry.
