Matthew C. Banks, Senior Program Officer , Business & Industry Program, Climate Change, World Wildlife Fund - US

Matt Banks works in World Wildlife Fund’s Business & Industry Program on climate change initiatives. He works with businesses and other stakeholders to build awareness and adoption of progressive corporate climate management strategies through Climate Savers, a voluntary program that has mobilized 21 companies to set world-class greenhouse gas reduction goals. Before joining WWF, Matt worked for AtKisson, Inc., where he developed sustainability indicators for the Island of Nantucket, the city of Pittsburgh, and the Trust for Public Land. Matt also worked for the International Council for Local Environmental Initiatives (ICLEI) and was responsible for launching the greenhouse gas emissions inventory and local action planning process for the City of Boston, Massachusetts in 2000. Additionally, he has worked for the Conservation Law Foundation, National Audubon Society, Maine State Planning Office and the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency.

He graduated from The Colorado College with a BA in Political Economy, a Minor in Environmental Issues and holds an MSc. from Sweden’s Lund University International Masters Programme in Environmental Policy & Sustainability Science. In 2002 he received his certificate in Energy Planning and Sustainable Development at the University of Oslo. In 2006, he completed the Prince of Wales Business & Environment Programme. Matt is a recipient of the Business Sustainability Initiative award from the Tuck School of Business at Dartmouth and is a nominee for the Sir Edmund Hillary Institute’s Hillary Step Award in 2009. He has lectured at MIT, Georgetown University, University of Delaware, Dartmouth College, University of Michigan, George Mason University, The Colorado College, Lund University, US Foreign Service Institute and at the United Nations.
