From Crawling to Slow, Regulatory Nominee Vows to Speed Up Federal Energy Reviews
Regulatory review times at the White House Office of Management and Budget are now the longest in 20 years, having spiked sharply since 2011. The nominee, Howard A. Shelanski, said at the confirmation hearing that he would try "to ensure that regulatory review at OIRA occurs in as timely a manner as possible." His comments were an acknowledgment that the backlog is frustrating presidential policy and failing to meet the deadlines in the executive order under which regulations are reviewed. Read more...

President Obama and Chinese President Xi Jinping agree to wind down HFCs
The agreement between President Obama and Chinese President Xi Jinping to wind down the production and consumption of hydrofluorocarbons could mark a key step toward eliminating some of the most potent greenhouse gases. For the first time, the United States and China will work together to persuade other countries, most notably holdouts such as Brazil and India, to join the effort to slash or eliminate the use of hydrofluorocarbons, or HFCs. Hotels Come Together on Carbon Footprint
Many corporations and event planners choose hotels based partially on what their carbon footprint will be. In addition to helping them choose venues, corporations also use that information as part of measuring their own carbon footprint. But until now all hotels measured their carbon footprint differently. Therefore, 23 global hotel companies put their competition aside to develop a standard way to measure this - the Hotel Carbon Measurement Initiative. Can this be modeled in other industries?
