California's Greenhouse House Gas Emission Targets Are Getting Tougher
California Governor Jerry Brown ramped up his efforts to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, issuing an executive order Wednesday morning with more ambitious targets. The governor's order aims to cut emissions to 40% below 1990 levels by 2030. Previous goals, which were set during former Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger's administration, were to reach 1990 levels by 2020, then 80% below that standard by 2050. Read more...

Here's Why Apple Is Building Solar Farms in China
Apple just agreed to back two large solar farms in China. It's the biggest deal of its kind for a U.S. company operating in China. Many U.S. tech giants, not just Apple, have been criticized for outsourcing their pollution, says Justin Wu, head of Asia research for BNEF. 23 Nestlé USA Factories Achieve Zero Waste to Landfill
Nestlé USA announced that 23 of its 32 US factories, spanning all of its food and beverage categories, are now landfill-free. This brings 15 percent of the candymaker's factories worldwide (72 in total) to zero waste for 2014, surpassing Nestlé's goal of having 10 percent of its global factories at this stage by 2015, and bringing it another step closer to achieving its goal of producing zero waste in all of its global factories and distribution centers by 2020. 4,585 Reasons for Workers Memorial Day
In 2013, 4,585 people died on the job because of unsafe working conditions. Every year, safety organizations around the U.S. mark April 28 as Workers Memorial Day to pay tribute to those who lost their lives on the job, and to vow to do better and create meaningful change. This year, those same groups collaborated to create the U.S. Worker Fatality Database online. The database, which continues to be updated, has information on more than 1,780 workplace fatalities from 2014. Read more...

Walmart Cuts 17.4M Metric Tons of GHGs from Global Supply Chain
Walmart is on track to eliminate 20 million metric tons of greenhouse gas emissions from its global supply chain by the end of 2015. The retailer has helped its suppliers reduce GHG emissions by more than 17.4 metric tons by the end of 2014, compared to the 2010 baseline. Walmart has also made gains in waste diversion and water reductions. Read more...
