Local networking group launches in Minneapolis-St. Paul

Washington D.C., May 24, 2011 - Last week, more than 30 environmental, health and safety (EHS), and sustainability managers met in Minneapolis to discuss the formation of a new networking group to connect NAEM members in the Upper Midwest region.

The new group will focus on building a robust network NAEM members can connect with to benchmark best practices, ask questions or float ideas, according to chapter organizer Karen Yeadon, Manager of Environment, Health and Safety at Emerson Process Management.

“Everyone is excited about the chapter and feels is fills a void,” Yeadon said. “The ability to talk about what we each are doing to meet certain requirements is needed.  Also, the fact that we will look at these issues in terms of management processes, strategic plans, budgeting, communications within and external to our organizations is a critical factor for the success of the chapter.  Other organizations don’t focus on this.”

The Minneapolis-St. Paul branch is the first group formed under NAEM’s recently revised chapter structure.  Under the new governance rules, the local chapters will focus on organizing events while NAEM’s Washington, D.C. office will manage the registration and assist with outreach.

“There is a lot of the bureaucracy associated with formal chapter structures that we just don’t have to do,” Yeadon said. “The idea of being able to grow and contract the group leadership team is especially helpful.”

NAEM Executive Director Carol Singer Neuvelt said she believes the new Midwest group will be a valuable resource to members.

“It’s important for EHS and sustainability managers to remain connected. It’s terrific that they can not only do it at a national level but a local level,” she said.

To Make the Most of an EHS & Sustainability Software Investment, Don’t Skimp on the Implementation

March 7, 2018

Software is a powerful tool for accelerating EHS & Sustainability performance, but even the best tool can fail if it’s not implemented well, according to a new NAEM report that was published today. At the heart of the findings in NAEM’s “Ready, Set, Implement: How to Successfully Deploy an EHS & Sustainability Software System” is that success—or failure— often comes down to how well the company mapped the system to its core processes, trained its users and sold the value to the organization.
