This month we introduce you to Kevin Winston, Director of EHS Programs at PepsiCo Beverage Division, one of the members who helps make our network so unique.

Kevin Winston

What are currently working on?

I am currently leading efforts for the implementation of our global EHS management system. This includes our manufacturing, distribution and machine equipment maintenance functions.

What do you like about your job?

I like the broad range of EHS issues that are present in a 70,000-employee business. Knowing that I can add value and effect change in others’ lives is rewarding for me.

What career accomplishment are you most proud of?

Influencing the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency on the HCN Maximum Achievable Control Technology (MACT) Standard. Using data from a study I led at my former employer, EPA eventually agreed with my assessment and made our technology the MACT floor. This I saved my former company $500 million.

What advice would you have for someone entering the field today?

Always take advantage of learning opportunities. Engage with experts through professional organizations like NAEM and learn from some of the best people in this field. Also, never be afraid to take on projects that don’t appear glamorous because you can build an impressive reputation when you succeed.

What are the three words your spouse/colleagues/best friends would use to describe you?

Perfectionist, Ethical and Amiable.

What aspect to the natural world/environment impresses you the most?

How the atmosphere and various ecosystems are able to evolve and rebound as the world increases in population and other sources of pollution. Why? It makes me feel very proud of the field I have chosen to make a career out of.

To Make the Most of an EHS & Sustainability Software Investment, Don’t Skimp on the Implementation

March 7, 2018

Software is a powerful tool for accelerating EHS & Sustainability performance, but even the best tool can fail if it’s not implemented well, according to a new NAEM report that was published today. At the heart of the findings in NAEM’s “Ready, Set, Implement: How to Successfully Deploy an EHS & Sustainability Software System” is that success—or failure— often comes down to how well the company mapped the system to its core processes, trained its users and sold the value to the organization.
