Rick Taylor; Parker Hannifin Corp.

Rick Taylor

Rick Taylor has been with Parker Hannifin Corp. a Fortune 500 Company based in Cleveland, Ohio, for 23 years. He started his career with the company as an Environmental Engineer and has progressed through various assignments within the group to the present position as their Corporate VP of Environmental, Health, Safety and Energy.

He is responsible for program oversight at more than 300 manufacturing facilities worldwide. He has spearheaded the company's sustainability program which includes product stewardship initiatives, social responsibility efforts, accident prevention and an energy/greenhouse gas reduction program. Additionally, Mr. Taylor manages the compliance assurance program and the environmental liabilities portfolio. His group also manages global procurement of energy and new construction. Prior to joining Parker, he worked for BP America as a Research and Development engineer in the field of industrial pollution treatment systems.

He is on the Steering Committee of the Corporate Sustainability Network and the Sustainability Advisory Board for the Cleveland State University Center for Sustainable Business Practices. He also is a member of the Manufacturers Alliance Sustainability Division and a member of NAEM's Board of Regents.

Mr. Taylor holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemical Engineering from Case Western Reserve University, a Master of Science degree in Chemical Engineering from the University of Akron, and an MBA from Baldwin Wallace College.

He, his wife and two children currently reside in Solon, Ohio. He enjoys hiking, fishing and golfing.

Kris Morico; General Electric Co.

Kris Morico

Kris Morico is Global Leader of several successful Corporate Environmental Programs at General Electric Co. including: GE's Global Water, EPCRA, PRTR Chemical Management Programs and the new Environmental Excellence initiative launched in 2010. This initiative recognizes the GE locations with outstanding environmental performance.

Additionally, she leads the team associated with the company's fourth ecomagination commitment: to make a 25 percent absolute water reduction by 2015. In this role, Ms. Morico is responsible for the development and implementation of all associated programs across GE. She works closely with the company's business segments to proactively maintain compliance and achieve company goals.

Ms. Morico began her career working in the municipal water sector as a process engineer for the Regional Water Authority in New Haven, Conn. Over the past 27 years she has assumed leadership positions across several Fortune 500 companies including Clairol, Inc., Malcolm Pirnie Inc., Pratt and Whitney (Division of UTC), and most recently Tyco International.

She has a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology from Fairfield University, a Master of Science degree in Civil Engineering from the University of Connecticut, a MEM Environmental Management from Yale University, and an EMBA from the University of Connecticut. She is a licensed Professional Engineer, Board Certified Environmental Engineer in the American Academy of Environmental Engineers, Certified Safety Professional and Certified Hazardous Materials Manager. She also possesses a Class IV Water Treatment Plant Operators License issued by the State of Connecticut Department of Public Health and is an Environmental Laboratory Director through the same agency.

She is an active member in several professional EHS organizations and was recently elected to the status of Fellow in the American Society of Civil Engineer. She serves on the advisory board for the University of Connecticut School of Civil and Environmental Engineering as well as a board trustee of the American Academy of Environmental Engineers. Kris is a visiting lecturer at Yale School of Forestry and Environmental Studies and was inducted this year into the Academy of Distinguished Engineers at the University of Connecticut School of Engineering.

Mark Hause, E.I. DuPont de Nemours Inc.

Mark Hause

Mark C. Hause is the Global Environmental Competency Leader as part of DuPont's Corporate Safety, Health and Environmental Excellence center. During his 31 years with the company, he has held a variety of roles, which include Global Environmental Engineering Technology Manager as well as leadership roles in Manufacturing, Technology, Sales, Marketing, Business Development and Business Management.

Mr. Hause is a member of the NAEM Board of Directors, the NAEM Board of Regents, Professional affiliations include Board membership for NAEM, Red Clay Valley Association, Upper Bay Counseling and Support Services Inc. and Adoptive Families with Information and Support. He previously served as a Board Member for GEMI, the Environmental Associates of the Philadelphia Academy of Natural Science and the Center for Waste Reduction Technologies.

He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemical Engineering from Iowa State University.

Alan Leibowitz; ITT Exelis Corp.

Alan Leibowitz

Alan Leibowitz is Director of Environment, Safety, Health and Security (ESH&S) for ITT Exelis Corp., based in McLean, Va. In this position, he leads the worldwide team addressing ESH&S issues for this $6 billion-dollar-international supplier of advanced technology products and services including defense communications and electronics.

Mr. Leibowitz is a leader in professional and industry group activities, including his recent roles on the Board of Directors of the American Industrial Hygiene Association (AIHA) and as a Liaison Delegate to the World Business Council for Sustainable Development (WBCSD).

He has previously served on the Board of Directors of the Registrar Accreditation Board (RAB), Chair of the ANSI Z10 Committee that developed the first American National Safety and Health Management System Standard, Chair of the Electronic Industries Alliance (EIA) Environmental Issues Council and the Environmental Committee of the Aerospace Industries Association (AIA). He is a frequent speaker on Environmental and Safety Management and recently contributed a chapter on the subject to the textbooks “The Occupational Environment - It's Evaluation and Control” and “Patty's Industrial Hygiene."

He holds a Master's degree in Environmental Science from Drexel University and received extensive postgraduate training at the Columbia University School of Public Health.

Stephen Evanoff; Danaher Corp.

Stephen Evanoff

Stephen Evanoff's career includes service in the military, and engineering and management positions with aerospace, electronics, real estate and diversified manufacturing companies.

He is currently the Vice President of Environment, Health and Safety for Danaher Corp., a Fortune 250 global science and technology company with five business segments: Environmental, Test and Measurement, Dental, Life Sciences and Diagnostics, and Industrial Technologies. The company's 2012 revenues will exceed $18 billion.

Mr. Evanoff has been involved in NAEM since the late 1990s and has been a member of the NAEM Board since 2009. He is NAEM's First Vice President.

He has served as a U.S. Representative to the United Nations Environment Programme under the Montreal Protocol on Ozone Layer Protection. In recognition of his leadership in pollution prevention and ozone layer protection, he received the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's Stratospheric Ozone Protection Award, the EPA Best-of-the-Best Stratospheric Ozone Protection Award and a special commendation from the U.S. Secretary of Defense.

Mr. Evanoff has authored or contributed to numerous technical articles and books, and holds one patent. He has served as a course instructor and guest lecturer at Denver University, University of Colorado, University of Dayton and the Industrial College of the Armed Forces.

He holds a Bachelor of Science degree and a Master of Science degree in Chemical Engineering. He is a Registered Professional Engineer in Colorado and Texas, a Board Certified Environmental Engineer and a Board Certified Safety Professional.

He lives with his wife, Carleen, and son, Jackson, in Denver.

John Guttman; Beveridge & Diamond PC

John Guttman

John Guttmann is a Principal at Beveridge and Diamond based in Washington DC. Mr. Guttmann's practice has been devoted primarily to trial and appellate litigation in the commercial, securities and environmental areas. He currently serves as lead national counsel for a major petroleum refiner in all MTBE product liability litigation and is a member of the defense steering committee for the refining industry in those cases.

Carol Singer Neuvelt; NAEM

Carol Singer Neuvelt is the Executive Director of NAEM, the Premier Association for environmental, health and safety (EHS) Management. Under her leadership, NAEM has grown from a small group of environmental professionals into a robust, national organization with more than 1,800 individual members and 75 corporate members – representing the full spectrum of industry sectors among Fortune 1,000 companies. Thanks to her expertise in delivering quality professional development programming, NAEM has grown into the largest professional community for EHS and sustainability decision-makers.

Laura Murphy; KMI

Laura Murphy

Laura graduated from the University of Toronto with a Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Studies and Resource Management, and a passion to pursue a cohesive path for business and the environment. Laura began her career in 1998 at an environmental consulting firm, IndEco Strategic Consulting, to develop EHS management systems in Lotus Notes. This experience led to some life long professional connections including Howard Brown (NAEM Forum 2011 keynote speaker) and Alan Willis (NAEM Forum 2009 keynote speaker) as well as Carol Singer Neuvelt and Virginia Hoekenga. In 1999 Laura joined a startup EHS software company, KMI, where she is presently the Vice President of Customer Experience. During the past 13 years at KMI, Laura has been involved in every aspect of the business including application design, consulting, project management, and strategic business management. Throughout her professional experiences, Laura has worked directly with industry EHS and Sustainability Managers to identify challenges and opportunities, analyze business needs and design systems that streamline their business processes and job functions.


Mark Cates; Corning Inc.

Mark Cates

Mark Cates is Director Global Environmental Compliance for Operations and Products at Corning Incorporated, Corning is one of the world’s leading innovators in materials science, where he is responsible for fundamental environmental activities including regulatory compliance of operations and products, facility permitting, due diligence, site remediation, and sustainability initiatives.

Mark has more than 33 years of experience with Corning Incorporated including the last 6 years in the environmental function. Mark joined the environmental effort after a variety of positions in operations and engineering. Mark’s broad understanding of Corning Incorporated’s diverse technology set and operations is instrumental to his current role.

He is a graduate of Virginia Tech University with Bachelor of Science degree in Industrial Engineering and Operations Research.

Kym Fawcett; Enerplus Corp.

Kym Fawcett

Kym Fawcett is a skilled professional with over 25 years’ experience in environment, sustainability, regulatory compliance and permitting, stakeholder engagement/Indigenous affairs, and health and safety matters. She has a solid record of successfully developing and leading HSE&SD organizations and programs.

Kym's B.Sc studies were obtained through Okanagan College in British Columbia and Central State University in Oklahoma. Kym began her career as an environmental consultant with SENTAR in 1990. Moving to Golder Associates in 1993, Kym spent the next 14 years progressing from environmental technician to an Associate and Senior Project Director. Her work during this time focused primarily on environmental impact assessments, environmental management, regulatory permitting, for a variety of natural resource sectors including, mining, oil sands, nuclear, forestry, and pulp and paper, with an emphasis on the oil and gas sector.

In 2006, Kym joined ConocoPhillips as Team Lead, Oil Sands, Environment and Stakeholder Engagement. She served in this position until joining Enerplus in 2008 as the Manager for Environment, Regulatory and Stakeholder Engagement, Oil Sands, transitioning in 2010 to her current position as the Senior Manager of Safety and Social Responsibility for Enerplus Corporation. Her department oversees all matters and activities pertaining to health, safety, environment, sustainability, regulatory, stakeholder engagement, HSE & SD education programs, and indigenous affairs for the Corporation.

Recently, Kym served as President of the Canadian Heavy Oil Association (2012 to 2014), a multi-discipline, volunteer-based, not-for-profit professional association focused on providing education, technical and networking opportunities for its over 2,300 members.

Johanna Jobin; EMD Millipore Corp.

Johanna Jobin

As the Head of Corporate Responsibility & Community Affairs, Ms. Jobin leads the EMD Millipore’s corporate responsibility efforts, including the vision and strategic direction for environmental and social responsibility. Her responsibilities center around strengthening the division’s business performance by embedding sustainability into key business practices and driving and upholding a culture of change. Key programs she manages include the division’s greenhouse gas management and energy strategy, Design for Sustainability, community affairs and engagement, and reporting activities. Ms. Jobin also supports the Merck Group’s Corporate Responsibility activities.

Currently she is leading the division’s product sustainability strategy, messaging and branding, supporting the development of innovative opportunities for reducing life cycle environmental impacts, and developing solutions for customers including take-back and recycling programs and sustainable packaging improvements.

Prior to joining the former Millipore Corporation in 2008, she served as a Management Consultant, working with public and private sector clients in developing and implementing EHS and sustainability management systems. She received her Master of Environmental Management degree, with a certificate in Energy and Environment, from Duke University and is also an ISO 14001 trained auditor.

She is involved in a number of sustainability related organizations, and is currently President of the New England Chapter of the National Association for EHS & Sustainability Management (NAEM). She also serves on the City of Cambridge Climate Protection Action Committee and is a Board member of “e” inc., an organization focused on environmental and STEM education for children. She’s a regular volunteer in the community for organizations such as Read to a Child and Habitat for Humanity, and including a trip to Nepal where she helped build homes for a small village outside Kathmandu.

Sandy Nessing; American Electric Power Co. Inc.

Sandy Nessing

Sandy Nessing has responsibility for managing sustainability strategy, corporate stakeholder engagement and annual performance reporting for American Electric Power Co. Inc. (AEP), as well as strategic projects within the Environment, Safety and Health and Facilities organization. She works closely with executives and business units to identify, evaluate and coordinate strategic opportunities to reduce environmental impacts, protect people and support public policy and regulatory strategies.

She also manages special projects for AEP's Chairman and was responsible for writing and publishing AEP's first Corporate Sustainability Report in 2007. In 2010, she published AEP's first integrated Corporate Accountability Report, a combination of the annual sustainability report and Annual Report to Shareholders.

Prior to joining the company in February 2006, she was manager of Corporate Communications for Yankee Gas Services Co., part of the Northeast Utilities System and Connecticut's largest natural gas distribution company. She was responsible for all internal and external communications, including managing the company's communications strategy for compliance with new federal gas pipeline safety rules and community outreach to support construction of a liquefied natural gas (LNG) storage facility.

Before her work in the utility industry, Ms. Nessing was senior public information specialist for the Saint Raphael Healthcare System in New Haven, Conn. and spent 12 years as a broadcast journalist in Connecticut, holding positions that included radio news director, news anchor and reporter. She was elected the first female chairperson of the Connecticut Associated Press Broadcaster's Association and received an AP Managing Editor's citation for breaking the Unabomber story at Yale University.

She currently serves as chair of the Grange Insurance Audubon Center Stewardship Board in Columbus, Ohio, and is a member of the Columbus Council on World Affairs Board of Trustees. She is on the Board of Regents of NAEM and is a member of the Electric Power Research Institute's Sustainability Interest Group, the Boston College Center for Corporate Citizenship and the nongovernmental organization working group of the Electric Utility Industry Sustainable Supply Chain Alliance. She also led AEP's participation in the Global Reporting Initiative's (GRI) Electric Utility Sector Supplement Pilot Program, an international project to develop electric utility-specific sustainability performance indicators.

Ms. Nessing lives in Westerville, Ohio, with her husband, Ken, and son.

Michelle Redfield; Schneider Electric SE

Michelle Redfield

Michelle Redfield and her team direct Schneider Electric's North American environmental and sustainability initiatives and strategy. This involves leading environmental programs such as compliance, management systems, water reduction, waste minimization and recycling, data management and environmental recognition. Ms. Redfield also leads the company's global safety and environmental data management system program and its global safety standardization and process improvement programs.

Since joining Schneider Electric in 2010, she has been working closely on sustainability issues and promoting sustainability cultures in the company's more than 100 North America sites.

Prior to joining the company, Ms. Redfield worked for about 20 years in consulting engagements for U.S.- based multinational organizations, most recently managing a full-service environmental, health and safety consulting office in Chicago. During that tenure she led a wide range of environmental and safety initiatives, operational effectiveness program development and implementation, integrated environmental system and compliance auditing programs, and environmental and safety and sustainability information management system programs.

Thomas Day; United States Postal Service

Thomas Day

Thomas Day was named Chief Sustainability Officer in June 2011. He leads the USPS effort of being a sustainability leader by creating a culture of conservation throughout the Postal Service and leading the adoption of sustainable business practices. Prior to serving in this role, he was Senior Vice President, Intelligent Mail and Address Quality (2007-2011) and Senior Vice President, Government Relations (2005-2007). From 2001-2005, he was Vice President, Engineering.

Day is a third generation employee who entered the Postal Service as a management associate in the Northeast Region in 1984 following five years’ service as an officer in the U.S. Army. He is a graduate of the U.S. Military Academy at West Point, where he earned a bachelor of science degree in engineering in 1978. He represented the Postal Service as a Sloan Fellow at Stanford University's Graduate School of Business, where he earned a master of science degree in management in 1996.

Greg Rose; Chrysler Group LLC

Greg Rose

Gregory Rose was appointed Director – Environment, Health & Safety (EH&S), Chrysler Group LLC in April 2011. His responsibilities include ensuring the implementation and administration of standardized EH&S processes through World Class Manufacturing. In his position, Rose also works with the Sustainability Steering Committee and Corporate Sustainability Office to lead the company’s efforts to chart a sustainable course for the company that balances the demands of its environmental, health and safety aspects.

Prior to his current position, Rose held the position of Director – Stationary Environmental Affairs and Corporate Sustainability at Chrysler Group LLC in Auburn Hills, Michigan.

Since joining the company in 1988, Rose has served in a number of positions of increasing responsibility and holds a Bachelor of Science degree in chemistry from Athens College (Alabama).

NAEM’s 2018 EHS&S Forum to Offer Specialized Content for Retail Leaders

The National Association for Environmental Management (NAEM) will collaborate with the Retail Industry Leaders Association (RILA) to develop specialized retail-focused content for its 2018 EHS&S Management Forum in Louisville, the association announced today.
