Why did you join NAEM?
We joined NAEM because it seemed to be the perfect place to network with other EHS professionals to enhance our existing programs and learn from some of the best people in the business. It was also a way to contribute to corporate sustainability efforts across the country which supports an essential element of our Global Vision philosophy that "Concern with the environment shall be the cornerstone of all operations".

What are you currently working on?
In accordance with our Environmental Action Plan, we are currently focusing on our 2018 targets, which include, limiting greenhouse gas emissions, expanding biodiversity awareness and increasing employee environmental engagement throughout the Brother Americas locations.

What do you like about your job?
I enjoy the constant challenge to continually improve our EHS programs. I have had to be very creative when putting together programs to educate, train and develop our employees regarding EHS topics.

Has your environmental program received any awards or recognition? If so, what?
Yes, our Brother New Jersey office received the New Jersey Smart Work Places Platinum Award in 2016 as developed by The New Jersey Department of Transportation and New Jersey Transportation Management Associations, the highest achievement that may be earned by a business. We were recognized for outstanding achievement in creating programs that provide and promote commuting options for its employees.  In addition, the Brother New Jersey office won the Drive Less Somerset Employer Challenge Event sponsored by RideWise in 2016 and 2017, which awarded the Brother New Jersey office as the Somerset employer who reduced traffic and decreased the most amount of carbon emissions through choosing sustainable transportations alternatives. In 2017, the Brother New Jersey Office received the Gold Award from the Healthier Somerset Coalition in recognition of our commitment to improving employee health and well-being.

What is your biggest challenge in your current role?
Currently, I am focusing on the enhancement and continuous improvement of the Health & Safety Programs for the Brother Americas. Developing this program, to be as robust and fulfilling for the employees as the Environmental Programs have been, is my biggest challenge. There are clear health and safety legal requirements that we must follow to be in compliance with applicable laws, however, I am challenged with creating health and safety programs that our employees will naturally incorporate into the daily operations of the organization.

What career accomplishment are you most proud of?
Being a part of the team that developed, implemented and received the first certification of the Environmental Management System for the Brother Americas that consisted of six locations in the United States and five in Latin America under one ISO 14001 certification and the development of ongoing educational lectures, workshops and screenings regarding health and safety for our employees.

What advice would you have for someone entering the field today?
There are many challenges and opportunities within the environmental health and safety practice area. Take the time to learn from everyone and anyone you can within the field. Talk to seasoned EHS professionals about their real-life experiences. Often, you cannot learn these lessons from a book.

What are the three words your spouse/colleagues/best friends would use to describe you?
Loyal; Trustworthy; Mover-Shaker

What aspect to the natural world/environment impresses you the most? Why?
The underwater world discovered during snorkeling. The beauty of the neon colors and creatures from fish to coral makes you feel like you are in another world. All the more to protect our natural resources.

What do you like to do during your free time?
Walk, hike, golf and DIY house projects.
