August 2010

  • Below are the key takeaways from NAEM’s August 2010 GHG Management Benchmarking Survey. More than 125 companies responded, representing a range of industries and expertise.
  • The environmental, health and safety (EHS) function is primarily responsibility for GHG Management initiatives in nearly two-thirds of responding companies.
  • A majority of respondents have accomplished Scope 1 and/or 2 inventory and are setting reduction goals, while only 11% remain who have not begun to inventory their corporate GHG emissions.
  • Spreadsheets are common for companies in early stages, but the use of custom software is growing due to the increased importance of GHG management.
  • Majority of respondents – more than 50% -- are reducing GHG emissions through internal cost savings initiatives.
  • Many companies are reporting on multiple fronts for GHG disclosure, while nearly 30% are not reporting publicly by any method.
  • A majority of respondents are not yet focusing on supply chain management of GHG
