New Program Manager Joins NAEM Staff

Washington, DC, August 12, 2016 - NAEM continues to seek new ways to add value to your membership through new conferences, new benefits and now, a new staff member! Fresh off the heels of her MBA in Sustainability Caitlin Wilson has recently joined the NAEM programs team to help us bring some innovative ideas to you in 2017. Learn a little more about what motivates her below!

Q: Why did you want to work at NAEM?

CW: One of my favorite things about EHS&S is that it is a subject that allows companies to put their competitive agendas aside and share what they are doing to address some of our world's biggest problems. NAEM provides the platform and the safe space where EHS professionals can come together to discuss ideas, obstacles and opportunities that they are dealing with. The peer-to-peer learning experience that NAEM provides is unique and I am thrilled to be a part of it.

Q: Can you tell us a bit about your background knowledge of this space?

CW: My first "adult" job was at the Peace Corps Headquarters where I worked on the event planning team for the 50th anniversary. Through that experience, I saw how events and gatherings can really be powerful and allow people to connect, discover and grow both personally and professionally. I stopped working to enroll in a full-time MBA program that focused on Sustainability and during that program I learned different reporting frameworks, how to develop key performance indicators, and how to make the business case for sustainability. I am very fortunate to be in a position at NAEM where I can marry my experience with my passion.

Q:What are the issues you're most interested in developing conferences around?

CW: I am really interested in learning how corporations are tackling issues surrounding water – it seems like a pretty daunting issue so bringing creative corporate solutions to light will benefit all of us. I also am interested in how companies encourage behavior change surrounding EHS and sustainability initiatives. This seems to be the biggest obstacle when it comes to making these programs successful.

Q: Which  environmental books/authors/thinkers who most resonate with you? Can you please explain why?

CW: I am a huge fun of Bill McDonough and his cradle-to-cradle framework. I love the idea of creating products and processes that contribute and enhance the environment instead of taking away from it.

Q: What do you like to do for fun?

CW: I enjoy cooking, exploring national parks and am starting to ride my bike more. And as much as I love going to concerts and hanging with friends, there is something to be said for a nice meal at home and a good Netflix marathon!
