Maria Sison-Roces serves as Manager of Corporate Sustainability Programs at the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power, the largest municipal utility in the USA. Maria oversees programs in support of LA’s Green New Deal, including saving energy and water at LADWP facilities, reducing waste, choosing environmentally friendlier products, biodiversity and nature based solutions. She manages compliance with LA’s Ordinances on existing building energy and water efficiency, environmentally preferable purchasing, zero waste, and biodiversity. She is responsible for voluntary climate reporting activities to CDP, The Climate Registry, US DOE Better Plants/Better Climate Challenge, among others. In 2016, Maria led cross functional efforts to achieve LEED Gold for LADWP’s headquarters, the John Ferraro Building, which in 2019 became the first building in California to achieve LEED Zero Energy. She also oversaw the successful effort that led to the approval of LADWP’s greenhouse gas emissions targets by the Science Based Targets Initiative in 2022. Maria leads LADWP’s Green Team and currently serves as co-chair of the Electric Power Research Institute’s Power in Pollinators initiative.
