2023 NAEM Excellence Awards Judges

We are grateful to our panel of esteemed judges who rigorously evaluated our Excellence Awards nominees and graciously donated their time and attention to maintain the integrity of our program.

Carol Cala
Carol Cala

Former Vice President of Corporate Environment, Safety and Health (CESH) for Lockheed Martin Corporation, Carol oversaw the ESH organization and Chaired the ESH Leadership Council. She provided leadership to improve corporate-wide performance; including Lockheed Martin positions on emerging regulatory and legislative ESH issues, and the Corporation’s interface with public stakeholders on ESH. Under her leadership, the company experienced a 50+% improvement in safety severity rates and reduced its carbon footprint by more than 30%.
Sam Chappell
Sam Chappell

Sam is a founding director at Shirley Parsons, an EHS professional services firm that provides consulting, executive search, recruitment and staffing services to companies worldwide. After working in the company's UK recruitment business, Sam relocated to Boston in 2014 to open Shirley Parsons’ North American HQ. His diverse team provides career consultations to more than 25,000 EHS professionals across the region and partners with thousands of executives to help them achieve their companies’ goals.

Jessica McGlyn
Jessica McGlyn

Jessica is a certified Sustainability Associate with 20+ years of sustainability experience in stakeholder engagement, operations, supply chain, and policy. She has served in a variety of roles at the World Business Council for Sustainable Development (WBCSD), World Wildlife Fund, and International Paper Corporation. She attended leadership coaching school at American University and has an active coaching practice. She is also an International Coaching Federation Associate Certified Coach.

Paul Robbertz
Paul Robbertz

Paul is a retired Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) and Sustainability executive with 40+ years of experience. He served as Sr Director, EHS for Danone North America; VP, EHS for the Gates Corporation; VP EHS for Pitney Bowes; Director of EHS Audits and Compliance for Chemutra Corporation; and Global EHS Product and Operations Leader for The Dow Chemical Company. Today, Paul continues his EHS and Sustainability profession through independent consulting.

Beth Welmaker
Beth Welmaker

Beth is the Executive Director of Environmental Health and Safety for Nova Southeastern University and volunteers with CSHEMA in the role of President. Prior to NSU, she was Compliance Director for the WorkingBuildings Group of Companies. Beth has worked in the field of environmental health and safety since 1992 beginning at the South Carolina Department of Labor as an Industrial Hygienist where she enforced OSHA regulations across the state. She is a Registered Biosafety Professional.
