Ask the Board: What is the leadership style you'd like to be remembered for?
NAEM Board of Directors - Rick Taylor - A: Three years ago, our company went through a fairly significant diversity inclusion initiative. At the outset, the company hand-picked about 30 people from around the world to be part of this strategic development and I was lucky enough to be part of that group. I learned a lot about what I would call inclusive decision-making, a process that involves having a clear vision and then seeking input from various stakeholders to build out what that vision looks like. That was transformative for me in how I conduct business at Parker, and it is the way I would love NAEM to be. The first step is to create a vision that everyone feels like they can own, understand and ultimately adopt. My thought is that if we build up a process that incorporates stakeholder input from the Board of Regents, the individual members and the Affiliates Council, and deploy it strategically I believe it will make the association a little bit stronger and keep the NAEM staff engaged in the process.
