People, Planet, Profit - Working Towards a More Sustainable Future
No doubt you’ve heard the saying “People, Planet, Profit,” an expression used by sustainability advocates that addresses a company’s “triple bottom line.” Well, there’s a reason why “people” is listed first — it’s any organization’s most important asset.

To this end, senior management that cares about their employees are cognizant of the importance of investing in professional development, to further enrich their human capital. By doing so, employees feel more empowered and challenged at work, and hopefully will stick around for a while.

When considering the professional development of your staff, what are some of your top priorities?
  1. Ensuring employees are up to date with the most current information that will help them do their jobs better;
  2. Sparking creativity by providing channels in which folks can discuss the latest industry trends;
  3. Providing opportunities to build strong connections within the profession;
  4. All of the above.

If your answer is “d) all of the above,” I invite you to encourage your junior and mid-level EHS professionals to tap into the power of AIHA.

Access to First-Class Education

These days EHS professionals are bearing additional responsibilities, which in the past might have been managed by an in-house industrial/occupational hygienist. An AIHA membership confers access to a wide variety of online and in-person educational resources — all at discounted prices. For those EHS professionals being tasked with sampling and more, you need to build your skill set quickly. AIHA is your answer.

Powerful Networking

Like NAEM, AIHA hosts an annual conference called AIHce EXP every spring. A tremendous amount of networking occurs at this event. A few years ago, we built upon this with a comprehensive online community platform called Catalyst. Here EHS professionals can engage with their peers to discuss best practices, share their own experiences, and build lifelong connections.

Stronger Together

As a leader in the EHS community, I encourage you to consider an AIHA membership for at least one of your staff. They’ll hone their technical skills and have a unique opportunity to connect with renowned industrial/occupational hygienists.

Providing the EHS professionals in your company the necessary resources to stay current, connected, and informed can be an expensive, heavy lift. But it doesn’t have to be.

Investing in your team means you are serious about supporting “People, Planet, Profit.” Now that’s powerful.
