EHS and Sustainability Leaders Gather To Share Data Management Strategies
"Our members have to manage enormous amounts of data to advance their EHS and sustainability programs," said Carol Singer Neuvelt, Executive Director of NAEM. "This conference is a unique opportunity for them to learn about the latest tools and approaches to tracking and using data to make informed decisions."
The bi-annual event, which began in the 1990's, features a mix of peer-led software demonstrations and educational sessions on topics such as selecting and rolling out an enterprise-wide data management system. While many companies have moved from using spreadsheets to software-based systems over the past decade, Neuvelt said the challenges most users face in choosing and introducing a new MIS are remarkably similar.
"No matter where a company is in the process, it needs to prioritize its needs, identify a viable solution and figure out how to integrate that system into the existing business processes," she said.
And in the age of sustainability, tracking traditional EHS data is as important as ever.
"You cannot achieve sustainability without ensuring compliance," she said. "These challenges require daily attention to everything from employee behavior to gallons of water used. Information management systems are therefore a critical tool for creating safe and healthy workplaces, as well as understanding a company's environmental impact across the full value chain."
