John Hoekstra is the Director of Environment, Health & Safety (EHS) for the Windows and Doors Division at Cornerstone Building Brands. With more than 30 years of EHSS leadership experience, he has held senior and global EHS roles across multiple global industries, including Grant Geophysical, Peregrine Automotive, Conagra Brands, Kellogg’s, Tate & Lyle, and Ingredion.
He holds a Bachelor of Science in EHS Management from Grand Valley State University, an MBA in Finance and Management from Spring Arbor University, and a master’s degree in Safety Engineering from the University of Alabama at Birmingham. John also maintains multiple professional certifications, including Certified Safety Professional (CSP), Project Management Professional (PMP), and Lean Six Sigma Black Belt.
John is passionate about culture transformation, risk reduction, and Serious Injury and Fatality (SIF) prevention. He coauthored a Campbell Institute white paper on identifying SIF risks and preventing SIF events, reflecting his long-standing commitment to advancing safety science and industry best practices.
A dedicated member of the safety community, John is a past ASSP Chapter President and has served on several boards, including as treasurer at his church. Married for 32 years, he has two daughters and lives in South Elgin, Illinois, with his family and two Miniature Schnauzers. Outside of work, he enjoys exercising, watching sports, volunteering, and spending time with family and friends.
