Position Description
Director of Educational Programs for Corporate EHS & Sustainability & ManagementNAEM, the National Association for Environmental, Health, Safety and Sustainability (EHS&S) Management, is seeking a highly knowledgeable, motivated and collaborative individual to join our team as the Director of Educational Programs.
Location:
This role is in-person or remote for incumbents residing within the DC Metro area, provided they are available for in-person meetings and events.
Primary Responsibility Areas:
Reporting to the Association’s Deputy Director, the Director of Educational Programs leads the development and operation of the Association’s educational on-line and in-person learning programs focused on how companies are managing and advancing their EHS & Sustainability business goals.Content Management:
The Director of Educational Programs is responsible for developing the Association’s educational content.
- Convene and lead volunteer committees of corporate EHS and sustainability leaders who advise on the agenda and help find compelling speakers for the programs.
- Maintain a strong knowledge of relevant trends, challenges, tools, resources, technologies, and experts pertaining to corporate management of environmental, health, safety and sustainability (EHS&S) programs.
- Create the program agenda, develop specific sessions (peer-based, case studies or research presentations) and integrate sponsors/sponsored content where appropriate.
- Articulate the learning objectives for each session as well as identify the corresponding target audiences within the corporate EHS and sustainability management community
- Conduct speaker management, coaching, and instructions to ensure presentation content is on target and relevant.
The Director of Educational Programs is responsible for the overall management of in-person and virtual learning programs with respect to event staffing, contracts, contractors, and event logistics.
- Collaborate with team members to realize sponsor and sponsorship program elements.
- Collaborate with team members, staff, contractors and event logistics vendors to ensure all have clear roles and duties to support the successful execution of programs and events.
- Manage relationships with program-related vendors and lead both preparatory and on-site management of staff, contractors and hotel personnel (i.e., registration, F&B, AV, transportation).
The Director of Educational Programs formulates the short and long-term strategic plan related to Association learning programs (i.e., conferences, webinars, training, peer-based problem solving) and ensures continuous improvement of programming.
- Prioritize and curate EHS&S management topics for annual learning programs.
- Work with the Deputy Director to set the annual learning program schedule as well as establish & manage timeline of key deliverables.
- Responsibility for budget/expense management. Work with leadership to establish accurate budget projections, monitor income and expenses, and ensure the maintenance of accurate records.
- Collaborate with the marketing team in support of their effort to develop promotional materials; Articulate the narrative of the event; Assist in development of website content; and support the opening/closing remarks delivered at the event.
Skills and Qualifications:
The ideal candidate will:- Have a Bachelor’s or advanced degree. Preferred areas include but are not limited to sustainability management, environmental policy, nonprofit management, business administration or journalism.
- Possess fluency in current events and corporate sustainability issues with a strong desire to advance the profession and practice of corporate EHS and sustainability management.
- Have demonstrated 5 years of relevant work experience in creating, researching, implementing and evaluating professional development programs to develop high quality learning programs.
- Be a master at project management skills, and be able to take individual initiative as well as work with a team to implement successful learning programs.
- Be proficient at cultivating relationships with (and networks of) corporate leaders, NGOs and policy makers to stay abreast of emerging EHS& Sustainable business issues.
- Possess excellent writing, research and communication skills.
- A big picture thinker who is also a “doer.”
- Be focused on keeping projects and people organized and moving towards a common goal/deadline while also maintaining standards and best practices.
- Have exemplary attention to detail and a customer service focused mindset.
- Be an adaptive learner who is not afraid of technology.
- Strong organizational skills, with demonstrated flexibility and adaptability in your work style to better respond to multiple requests/tasks, shifting priorities, and informational needs.
- Be collaborative and able to share information, goals, opportunities, and successes with the appropriate parties.
- Be able to work independently, manage groups of volunteers, and establish/meet deadlines.
Travel is required for this position. Attendance at all in-person events is required in addition to other travel as needed (i.e., site visits, domestically, by plane)
Physical Requirements, with/without Accommodation
- Must be able to sit for extended periods of time.
- Must be able to write, type, and use the phone.
- Must have the ability to read screens and various reports.
- Must be able to remain active and mobile for up to 10 hours a day while at conferences.
- Must be able to hear well enough to communicate effectively verbally.
- Must be able to reach above shoulder and head and stoop to set up conference space collateral. This can include kneeling under a table to obtain access to electrical outlets.
- Must be able to frequently lift/carry/push conference materials and boxes weighing 10-30 pounds across conference venues for various events.
