Award Category: Empowering Systems
Jennifer M. Call, CCM, Senior Program Manager for Environmental Compliance at the Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA), was nominated for the NAEM Excellence Awards’ Leadership in Action – Empowering Systems category in recognition of her 15 years of environmental leadership and her role in modernizing TVA’s enterprise Environmental Management System (EMS). Serving as the program lead for an EMS supporting the nation’s largest public power provider and more than 10 million people across seven states, Call led the transformation of decentralized environmental practices into a cohesive, governance-driven system aligned with ISO 14001 principles and the Plan-Do-Check-Act (PDCA) methodology.
Her leadership established formal charters for TVA’s EMS Steering Committee and EMS Core Team, strengthened EMS procedures and policy integration, created a five-year EMS Program Plan, enhanced an enterprise EMS Implementation Metric to provide quarterly visibility into PDCA performance, and successfully piloted a PDCA-based program planning framework that can be replicated across other Environmental & Sustainability programs. Call also integrated emergency preparedness and business continuity into the EMS framework, strengthening TVA’s ability to maintain environmental controls during abnormal conditions. Through cross-functional facilitation, governance clarity, data-driven accountability, and her ability to translate complex technical requirements into practical guidance, Call has created a scalable system that improves leadership visibility, identifies performance gaps and corrective actions, strengthens environmental accountability, and provides TVA with a structured framework for measurable continuous improvement across its diverse operations.
