Award Category: Advancing Corporate Transparency
Martha Coopersmith-Gray, Director of Environmental, Health, Safety, Sustainability and Product Stewardship at Amphenol, was nominated for the NAEM Excellence Awards’ Leadership in Action – Advancing Corporate Transparency category in recognition of her more than 40 years of EHS&S and product stewardship leadership and her role in building and advancing Amphenol’s global Responsible Business Alliance (RBA) program. During her 18 years with Amphenol Communication Solutions, Coopersmith-Gray has transformed RBA and ESG performance from a reactive customer requirement into a proactive global management system supporting regulatory compliance, operational excellence, employee protections, customer confidence, and long-term sustainability.
To address the challenges of implementing consistent standards within Amphenol’s highly decentralized global organization, she built a six-person RBA support team strategically located across North America, China, and Asia-Pacific and established training, monthly ESG communications, audit dashboards, corrective-action tracking, management reporting, and regional peer-to-peer learning programs. Her leadership has produced measurable improvements, including helping a China manufacturing facility improve its RBA audit score from 104 to 180 out of 200 following her direct coaching and transforming Amphenol’s ESG performance with a major global customer from below the customer’s minimum RBA threshold to an entirely “GREEN” ESG supplier scorecard.
Beyond Amphenol, her career includes leadership roles with AT&T Bell Labs, Lucent Technologies, Agere Systems, and the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection, as well as significant contributions to electronics-industry product stewardship standards, including the Joint Industry Guide and IPC-1752 reporting framework. Through technical expertise, global collaboration, coaching, and systems-based leadership, Coopersmith-Gray has strengthened organizational accountability and created sustainable improvements in EHS, responsible business practices, and supply-chain performance.
