Novolex’s Ivan Marquez and Jennifer Pippin Honored as NAEM NexGen Leaders

NAEM NexGen Leaders Awards - Ivan Marquez and Jennifer Pippin
TORONTO, Ont., Oct. 16, 2019 — Today, the National Association for Environmental, Health, Safety and Sustainability (EHS&S) Management (NAEM) presented NexGen Leaders Awards to two Novolex professionals: Ivan Marquez, Regional EHS Manager, and Jennifer Pippin, EHS Manager.

Mr. Marquez and Ms. Pippin were among eight corporate EHS&S leaders recognized at NAEM’s Excellence Awards ceremony which took place during the largest annual gathering for environment, health, and safety, and sustainability decision-makers — NAEM’s 27th annual EHS&S Management Forum.

Nominated by their manager, Novolex’s EHS Director, Matt Carter, Mr. Marquez and Ms. Pippin were acknowledged by NAEM for their distinct EHS impacts on the company.

Mr. Marquez led the implementation of a Mobile Inspection system across all 62 manufacturing locations, allowing Novolex to create compliance and proactive templates, and assign them to the appropriate location with the appropriate frequency. The system eliminated clipboard inspections, and provides real-time data tracking and completion-submission verification. Mr. Marquez also set up reports and charts to show weekly progress. “Ivan is inspiring other minorities to get into the EHS field,” Carter included in his nomination of Mr. Marquez. Within 10 years of moving to the United States, Mr. Marquez — in addition to learning the English language — received an engineering degree, learned OSHA/EPA regulations and became the regional EHS manager for seven manufacturing locations.

Ms. Pippin manages the Novolex Specialty Business Unit, which achieved the following exceptional results: Each location is between 390-940 days injury free; 425+ days since last lost time incident; 3-Year DART Rate of 0.30; 100% on internal proactive projects; and 100% on internal compliance inspections. “Ms. Pippin’s influential leadership is also improving team member performance,” cited Carter in his nomination of Ms. Pippin. “When she noticed a couple of team members struggling with certain environmental permits, Ms. Pippin led weekly calls with each individual to provide training and support. Her proactive approach to helping others ensured compliance, built team cohesion, and diverted potential problems.”
